Experience High Altitude Adventures with Telluride Mountain Biking
With its scenic valley trails, forested single-tracks and challenging technical inclines, Telluride is one destination that's on every serious mountain biker's bucket list. But you don't have to be a pro to enjoy biking in Telluride. Explore old mining roads and railroad tracks, ride through bucolic meadows, or visit Telluride Bike Park to hone your skills on table tops, rock gardens, berms, and jumps. Bikers of all ages and skill levels can enjoy guided half- and full-day downhill tours past lakes, valleys and forests on the Galloping Goose Trail. And experienced riders can customize a tour to explore less traveled paths.View Mountain Village's Biking Trail Map.
For an ideal day ride, try the Galloping Goose Trail from Lizard Head Pass to Telluride/Ilium Valley. If you have two vehicles, you can shuttle your bikes to the top of Lizard Head Pass for a fun 19-mile ride back to Telluride. The trail follows the old narrow-gauge railroad line and passes by abandoned towns and buildings, scenic views on a fun single-track trail. The ride from the top of Lizard Head Pass to the Ilium Valley is all downhill. The final 4.5 miles from Ilium Valley to Telluride are uphill and follow the San Miguel River back to town. To save time, leave your second vehicle at the Sheep Corral parking area in Ilium Valley and end your ride there.
